This project started with a desire to both experience more vintage recipes and to preserve them for the future.  So many recipe cards, files, clippings, and the like end up heading to the recycle center never to be seen, let alone cooked, ever again.  So, with that, Recipe Card Archive was born.  I started by buying up a few (okay, more than a few) collections of cards from eBay which started the project in earnest and very much fueled the fire.  As I was amassing cards, I was also building up the workflow to get them scanned, interpreted, expanded, and published on the site along with the tools (software and hardware) I would need to make it all work well.

I don't archive everything in every collection.  Mainly there is too much to include absolutely everything and I wonder about copyrights in some cases. These collections often have a variety of items including:

• Recipe cards, both typed and handwritten
• Other recipes on scrap paper, reused papers, and all other sorts
• Promotional recipes from grocery stores, food brands, and other organizations
• Clippings from newspapers, magazines, and the like
• Booklets from local groups, mailings, and all manner of things in between

All that said, here is the very rough reasoning I usually follow to decide what makes the cut.  An item will get included if:

1. It's a handwritten or typed recipe, card or otherwise
2. The recipe has been "loved" beyond just being clipped (e.g. a clipped recipe that was hand-glued or taped to a card)
3. The item is weird, interesting, fun, randomly strikes my fancy
